AIDRIE – The City of Airdrie is preparing to introduce its proposed anti-bullying bylaw.
The proposed bylaw was created after the attempted suicide of Airdrie teen Mackenzie Murphy last December, who was being bullied by her peers.
It calls for mandatory counseling sessions for bullies.

The first reading of the bylaw is expected at Airdrie’s city council meeting on Monday night.
Murphy, who was just 13 when she tried to take her own life, says she is grateful this day has come.
“I’m so happy there’s been progress made,” Mackenzie Murphy. “I never thought it would get this far. At first it was just an idea, but now it’s grown into something that will happen. It’s really special because I’ve been there, and I understand how kids and how helpless they feel.”
If successful in Airdrie, Murphy says she would like to expand the bylaw to Calgary.
Mayor Nenshi’s office says it would be happy to meet with her if a meeting is requested.
