TORONTO – In the event of a massive tornado sweeping in from the ocean, scooping up thousands of man-eating sharks in its fury and dumping them in your city, don’t worry – your house insurance should cover the damages.
After the TV movie Sharknado went viral last week, Consumer Reports, a U.S.-based marketplace watchdog, asked several experts at the Insurance Information Institute if a standard insurance policy would cover nature’s wrath of falling sharks.

“A tornado is a wind event,” Mike Barry, vice president of media relations, told Consumer Reports. Damage from cyclones, tornados and hurricanes are covered under a standard policy.
But what about a falling shark?
“It would be covered, yes, as a falling object,” said Barry.

The marketplace watchdog also provided advice for what to do in the aftermath of a sharknado.
It suggested not to let the shark meat spoil and to check out the group’s ratings for chainsaws, freezers and top-rated grills.
