Crash west of Perimeter kills Winnipeg man

WINNIPEG – A young man is dead and a semi driver from Edmonton is in police custody after a head-on collision just west of Winnipeg.

A 21-year-old Winnipeg resident was driving a pickup truck that collided with a semi-trailer truck before 9:30 p.m. Monday on the Trans-Canada Highway near the John Blumberg Golf Course, RCMP said.

The victim died at the scene; police have not released his name.

A 33-year-old Edmonton man who was in the big rig suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

He was arrested after he was released from hospital, but there’s no word on charges.

Witnesses said the semi crossed into the path of oncoming traffic just before the collision.
