Edmonton police are investigating alcohol and speed as factors in a collision early Thursday morning in the city’s southeast that left one person dead.
The crash happened in the area of 38 Avenue between 55 Street and 57 Street just before 2 a.m.
Edmonton police said it was reported that a Mitsubishi Lancer was heading east on 38 Avenue when it collided with two parked vehicles — a Chevrolet Monte Carlo and a Dodge Journey. Neither parked car was occupied at the time.
Edmonton fire crews were also called to the scene and pulled two passengers — a 23-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man — from the vehicle. Both people were taken to hospital where the woman died of her injuries, police said.

The man was treated and released.
The 30-year-old man driving the vehicle and another 29-year-old man who was a passenger in the vehicle were not injured, police said.
Police said the woman who died was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
