Memorials scheduled to honour Rocky Jones

HALIFAX – A Nova Scotian civil rights activist will be remembered at memorials across the province next week. Burnley Allan “Rocky” Jones, 71, died on Monday after a heart attack.

According to Jones’ obituary, three memorials will be held next week, including:

  • A visitation at Halifax’s Atlantic Funeral Home — at 6552 Bayers Rd. — on Tue, Aug. 6. The visitation will happen from 5 to 9 p.m.

  • A wake at the Colchester Community Funeral Homes on Wed, Aug. 7. The wake is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. at the facility at 512 Willow St. in Truro, N.S.
  • A funeral service will be held at the same location, on Thu, Aug. 8 at 1 p.m., with a reception service to follow.

Jones was a well-respected lawyer and activist who advocated for ethnic minorities, prison populations and the poor. In 2010, he was granted the Order of Nova Scotia.
