1 dead, 3 seriously injured as tent hits hydro wires near Watford

WATFORD, Ont. – Workers at a London, Ont., company are mourning after one of their colleagues died and three others were seriously injured when a tent they were setting up for a wedding contacted a hydro line.

Provincial police Const. Chrystal Jones says the incident occurred about 5 p.m. Thursday, as a crew of six men working for Signature Events Rental Centre were putting up the large tent at a home on LaSalle Line, southeast of Watford.

Police have identified the victim as 21-year-old Jeremy Bowley, of London, Ont.

They say the other three injured males – two from London and one from Port Elgin, Ont. – are now listed in stable condition.

Two other workers did not sustain any injuries in the accident.

Police say a post-mortem examination is scheduled for today in London, while provincial police and the Ministry of Labour are continuing their investigations.

“We’ve got a whole staff mourning here, we have family, we have friends. I mean it’s a complete tragedy,” said Signature Events spokeswoman Karen Marques.

“We’re a very, very close company.”
