RCMP investigate online dating scam, that has cost victims $300,000

CALGARY- RCMP in Canmore are investigating an online dating scam, that has cost victims more than $300,000.

Investigators say a man starts relationships with women he meets online, and soon starts to request large amounts of money through wire transfers. He promises that he will pay them back, after receiving money from another source.

The victims say he is very convincing, and gains their trust by making the women believe they are in actual relationships with him.

So far, two women from Canmore have sent him over $300,000.

Officers warn people to use caution when dealing with people on the internet.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact RCMP.
