Police say two 16-year-old boys were shot, one fatally, in an early morning incident in Ottawa’s west end on Monday.
The OPS homicide unit said the incident happened at about 3:16 a.m. in the 2200 block of Elmira Drive, just off Iris Street near IKEA.
Officers at the scene discovered the body of 16-year-old John Ndayishimiye.
A second teenage victim, the same age, was found at the scene with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said he was taken to hospital after being treated by the Ottawa Paramedic Service.

Officers combed the nearby area but there are no suspects currently in custody.
“We believe it was targeted and not a random act. There is no concern for public safety at this time,” an OPS spokesperson told Global News in an email.
