PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – A 53-year-old woman is recovering after being attacked and mauled by a bear – one of three she encountered while walking her dogs east of Peterborough.
The incident happened Sunday near Havelock, when the woman and her dogs were out walking on a trail.

Authorities say the dogs were also injured when they came to the woman’s rescue, eventually scaring the bears away.

The woman made her way to safety and called 911.
She was taken to hospital in Campbellford for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
