FREDERICTON – Siemens Canada and the University of New Brunswick are partnering on two research projects dealing with smart grid technology.
Siemens is committing to invest up to $2.5 million into academic research over the next five years.

That investment will come in the form of funds, software and equipment, sponsorships and staff.
The two projects will look to develop programs to help reduce electricity consumption or shift it from on-peak to off-peak times of the day.

Last year, Siemens and NB Power signed a 10-year deal to develop ways to reduce energy consumption in the province.
NB Power has set a goal to cut power demand by 635 megawatts by 2035 – roughly the equivalent of the power output from the Mactaquac Hydroelectric dam.
