An hours-long disruption in 911 service affected multiple communities across B.C.’s Southern Interior on Thursday.
E-Comm, the company that handles 911 calls, says the 911 service began malfunctioning at around 2:30 p.m. At around 7:45 p.m. the company said that service had been fully restored.
The cause of the disruption remains unknown.

The problem was initially reported in the South Okanagan and the Central Okanagan.
However, E-Comm says the issue spread to include the Regional District of Central Okanagan, North Okanagan, Okanagan-Similkameen, Thompson-Nicola, Columbia-Shuswap, Squamish-Lillooet (North), Central Kootenay, East Kootenay and Kootenay-Boundary Regional Districts.

“The cause of the outage is currently under investigation with TELUS technicians continuing to work through the night,” E-Comm said in a press release, after service had been restored. “Further details will be provided in the coming days.”
E-Comm says 911 was functioning normally in all other areas of B.C. during the regional outage.
