SIU investigate motorcycle crash early Sunday in central Hamilton

A crash early Sunday that was serious enough to close Barton Street East near the General Hospital for several hours is under investigation by the province’s police watchdog.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says the incident involved a motorcycle and occurred near Barton Street East and Smith Avenue during the early hours of Sunday.

“Hamilton Police observed a motorcycle being operated erratically in the area of Kinrade Avenue and Barton Street East. The officer proceeded to follow the motorcycle,” spokesperson Monica Hudon told Global News.

“A short time later, in the area of Barton Street East and Oak Avenue, the motorcycle was involved in a single-vehicle collision.”

The 32-year-old bike rider was arrested and transported to hospital to treat injuries, according to Hudon.

Five SIU investigators have been assigned to the case.
