Downtown area reopens after gas leak at Toronto restaurant

A gas leak which caused an evacuation and road closures in downtown Toronto has been fixed, police say.

In a tweet Tuesday, police said the gas lines were blown at a restaurant in the Blue Jays Way and Wellington Street area just after 10 a.m.

Police said fire crews were advised to evacuate the area.

Officers said access roads were closed to traffic.

In an update at around 3:40 p.m., police said Enbridge attended the scene and fixed the leak.

“Some displaced people were accommodated by TTC,” the tweet read.

Officers said all pedestrian and vehicle traffic had reopened.

“People (are) allowed back in the buildings,” police wrote.
