Hamilton man dead after falling off personal watercraft in Grand River

OPP in Brant County say a Hamilton man who went missing Thursday night in the Grand River after falling off a personal watercraft was found dead after a one-day search.

Investigators say the 25-year-old man was last seen by witnesses just before 7:30 p.m falling off the small Seadoo in the waterway near Highway 54 and Onondaga Townline Road.

Police say the watercraft was recovered Thursday night but not the rider, who was described as tall, with a thin build, wearing no shirt and grey shorts.

The man was not wearing a personal floating device and found late Friday night after a search involving multiple OPP units, including the Haldimand Marine Unit as well as aviation and underwater search teams.

OPP identified the man as Cody Thomson of Hamilton.

Police say family members have been notified and an investigation is ongoing.
