Murder charge laid in pair of homicides in Saanich homicide, police say

Saanich police say a man has been charged with second-degree murder as they continued to investigate a pair of homicides in the Vancouver Island community.

Prosecutors approved a single charge against 36-year-old Christopher Cathcart of no fixed address on Thursday.

Investigators said they believe there was a relationship between Cathcart and one of the victims.

“Investigators are satisfied that the two homicides had no connection to any of the residents of this neighbourhood, and that the occupants of the residence connected to the investigation were not involved in this tragic incident,” Detective Sgt. Damian Kowalewich said in a media release.

Police were called to the 3400-block of Bethune Avenue Wednesday night, where they initially said they discovered “two homicides that appear to be related.”

Yellow police tape and numerous officers were seen on Bethune Avenue conducting an investigation inside and around a home Thursday.

Cathcart is due back in court on Friday.
