Edmonton police asked drivers to avoid an area in the southwest Ermineskin community after a child was struck by a short school bus Wednesday morning.
Police had closed off the area near 29 Avenue and 109 Street, a portion of road where the road curves, while they investigated. Both eastbound and westbound lanes were blocked and traffic was being detoured as of 9:30 a.m.
Earlier in the morning, at around 8:15 a.m., paramedics were at the scene: a crosswalk near Century Park Station.
An eyewitness at the scene told Global News the girl was hit while running across the crosswalk.
“She was hit by… I don’t know if it’s the mirror or just the side bumper,” said Peralta.

“I heard her crying but I didn’t come near her.”
The eight-year-old girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The major collisions investigations section has taken over the matter.
