TORONTO – Toronto’s community housing CEO Gene Jones is withdrawing a request to renovate the agency’s Yonge Street building as well as lease office space on Bay Street.
In a letter to the board of the Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) Jones said he made the decision after “reflecting on concerns raised by several directors and my staff.”

Mayor Rob Ford told reporters Friday that renovating offices wasn’t part of Jones’ job description.
“Very upset. We can’t tolerate that,” said Ford. “He’s doing a good job, I hope he’s not losing track of what he’s here for and renovating offices isn’t what he’s here for.”

“Don’t we all want bigger offices and better offices?”
The Thursday motion which sought to renovate the TCHC building at 931 Yonge Street – which included Jones’ office – and lease office space at 777 Bay Street, has been delayed until December.
In his letter to the board, Jones said the motion was intended to “address urgent space requirements and improve service delivery.”
