One person was fatally shot by police in an incident in North Vancouver on Saturday night, RCMP say.
The person had allegedly tried to attack someone with a weapon, amid secondary reports of a person trying to break into a home on Hamber Place and Mount Seymour Road around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Officers believed the same person was involved in both incidents.

Police tracked the person down, but “initial attempts” to arrest them were “not successful.”

“A confrontation ensued which led to an officer to discharge their service-issued firearm,” BC RCMP spokesperson Dawn Roberts say.
The person was taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The province’s police watchdog, the Independent Investigation Office, is conducting an investigation.
“Our information is that police did fire (a gun) and we believe the shots struck the individual,” said chief civilian director Ron MacDonald.
A nearby resident said she heard gunshots but just thought it was fireworks.
“I was watching tv last night and I heard something outside. Could have been a gunshot or a firework, but we shrugged it off,” said Jamie Leek.
“We have been hearing a lot of crime going on in Vancouver but I didn’t think it was over here.”
Other neighbours said this was extremely out of character for their neighbourhood.
“It’s a quiet neighbourhood. We’ve lived here for more than 25 years,” said Brenda Dobie.
“Nothing like this ever happens around here.”
