EDMONTON – At 4 p.m. on Monday, Strathcona County RCMP confirmed Highway 16 had been reopened to traffic in both east and westbound directions after a massive crash.

However, RCMP say travel is not recommended.  Motorists that choose to travel are urged to use extreme caution and expect delays.   Highways remain in poor winter driving conditions and multiple collisions are being reported throughout Strathcona County.

The multi vehicle crash happened on Highway 16 eastbound near Highway 21.

Highway 16 eastbound was closed for much of the day between Broadmoor Boulevard and Highway 21 as emergency crews responded to the collision.

“We’re definitely not recommending travel and advising people to stay home,” said Cst. Wally Henry with Strathcona County RCMP. “It’s not just the snow it’s really icy underneath. I’m estimating we’ve got 20 vehicles off the road all over the county.”
