Burnaby’s long-time Mayor Derek Corrigan has kept his seat in the 2014 civic election.
Voters went to the polls on Saturday, Nov. 15, and cast their vote for mayor, council and school trustee.
Five candidates ran against Corrigan to try to unseat him. Corrigan was first elected in 2002 and has been a resident of Burnaby since 1997.
He has made headlines recently for his fight against energy giant Kinder Morgan. The company wants to build part of their expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline through Burnaby Mountain but the city is trying to do everything they can to stop it.
Corrigan has said he will stand in front of a bulldozer to stop the Kinder Morgan expansion.
The National Energy Board ruled in October that Burnaby can’t stop the company’s activities on the mountain because the geotechnical work is needed by the board so it can make recommendations to the federal government about whether the project should proceed.
On Friday, Kinder Morgan was granted an injunction by a B.C. Supreme Court judge to remove protesters from Burnaby Mountain.

The protesters, who have been staked out on the mountain for two months, have until 4 p.m. on Monday to take down their camp.
