WINNIPEG – Deepak Joshi has resigned from his position as Winnipeg’s top bureaucrat.
Joshi, the chief financial officer who was named acting chief administrative officer following the resignation of former CAO Phil Sheegl, resigned effective Wednesday. Joshi was suspended Jan. 16 by Mayor Brian Bowman, who would only say he had “lost confidence” in the acting CAO.

“Executive Policy Committee has accepted the resignation of Deepak Joshi from the City of Winnipeg, effective today. Additional details cannot be provided as this is a personnel matter,” Mayor Brian Bowman said in a statement released late Wednesday morning.

Joshi was second-in-command under Sheegl, who resigned under a cloud in October. Sheegl’s resignation came shortly before the release of a scathing audit into a deal to build four fire halls in the city.
