The search is over for a prisoner who escaped from the minimum security unit at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary near Prince Albert. At around 7:55 p.m. CT on Oct. 18, Montreal Lake RCMP apprehended Hector Thomas Bird.
Bird had been unlawfully at large since Oct. 5 when it was discovered the inmate was missing during a head count. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

He is currently serving a three-year sentence for sexual assault, sexual interference and failing to comply with a probation order.

Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) says it is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
