Salvation Army kettle campaign kicks-off in Saskatoon

SASKATOON – The Salvation Army Christmas kettle campaign kicked-off in Saskatoon Thursday morning. Global Saskatoon’s Kevin Stanfield emceed the event to help get it all started.

Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison made the first drop in the kettle, signaling Saskatoon residents to do the same.

The goal this year is to raise $275,000. All funds raised will assist seven community outreach programs.

“It’s not just the homeless that we work with but it’s those like the working poor so it’s an urgent need in this city and the money that we use is not just at Christmas”{ said Malba Holliday, the executive director of community services for the Salvation Army.

“We actually use it throughout the year so it becomes a major part of our budget for this particular department in family services and it really shows the care of the community when they realize the need that’s out there when they give to the kettle campaign.”

The campaign runs from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. CT excluding Sundays until Dec. 23.
