Man struck and killed in marked crosswalk in northeast Edmonton

EDMONTON — A 54-year-old man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in northeast Edmonton Friday evening.

Police were called to the area of 118 Avenue and 55 Street at around 5:40 p.m.

Officers believe the pedestrian had just stepped off the curb at a marked crosswalk to cross 118 Avenue when he was struck by a Chevrolet Malibu. Police said the car was being driven by a 21-year-old man.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Charges have not been laid at this time.
