WINNIPEG — You can stroke another player off the list of available Winnipeg Jets players.
Defenceman Toby Enstrom is scheduled to have knee surgery on Thursday and is out indefinitely. With only three weeks left in the regular season and the Jets long out of the playoff race, it would seem his season is probably over.
“Toby’s been dealing with an issue since November,” head coach Paul Maurice said at Tuesday’s pre-game media briefing. “And he’s been able to get through it because of blocks of days off. If he can get a two day block, he’d get a little better and it’s just getting worse.”

Enstrom, 31, hasn’t missed a game this season, appearing in all 72 contests.
“It got to the point that he’s not recovering and he hasn’t been,” said Maurice. “He hasn’t been for almost a month now. He’s not recovering enough on his days off for the pain ever to subside.”
Enstrom has just two goals and 14 assists this season. He has two more years left on his contract that will pay him $5.75 million per season.
“Now it’s really starting to affect his play and we just can’t have the injury itself get any worse than it is,” said Maurice. “If we were pushing for the playoffs today he’d still be getting it done.”
The Jets recalled defenceman Julian Melchiori from the Manitoba Moose on an emergency basis. It’s the third time Melchiori has been called up this season and he’s appeared in one game with Winnipeg.

The Jets injury list continues to grow with Bryan Little, Mark Stuart, Joel Armia, Nikolaj Ehlers, Anthony Peluso, Mathieu Perreault and JC Lipon also hurt.
