REGINA – Saskatchewan’s health minister says he’s confident that a merger of the pediatric wards at two Regina hospitals will result in better health care for children.
Dustin Duncan says he has assurances from key pediatricians, pediatric oncologists, an infection control specialist and others that the changes will improve care for kids in southern Saskatchewan.

The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region is closing the pediatric ward at the Pasqua Hospital and merging it with the ward at Regina General.
The health region says there has been a declining number of children being admitted to the hospitals.

Dr. Juliet Soper, the health region’s head of pediatrics, told Duncan that children at Pasqua Hospital have lacked supportive services such as dedicated social workers or dieticians.
The region has also decided that critically ill children should be transported to a single provincial site in Saskatoon.
