Albertans can start applying today for $100 from the provincial government to help deal with the high cost of living.
Premier Danielle Smith announced earlier this month that residents can get the cash instead of the province reducing its tax on gasoline at the pumps.

Smith said cuts to gas taxes don’t always get passed on to customers.
Last week, the province officially changed its fuel tax relief regulations to make way for the payments.

Nearly 3.4 million adults are eligible and have until Sept. 2 to apply online.
The government says it expects the money to land in bank accounts within two weeks after an application is received.
As usual, great news is announced, but when I start process using terrible My Alberta app it gets me nowhere. using my phone ithe app just stacks at opening. I was trying the same on my computer, I was able to get through and sign in, but there I could not find any mention related to energy rebate payout. Not the first time that I have issues with this app, anybody else?
I am having a great deal of difficulty getting final verification online to receive the Alberta Energy $100 rebate after two days of exasperating efforts. Is this 🤔 a problem for other Albertans?
There are a couple of issues I already found out about this $100 Energy Rebate:
1) The Income Test. It specifies less than $225,000 Household Income. The formula is based on the Gross Income reported on Line 15000 of the T1 Return, less a few items like health care expenses, shared pension, etc… In our case (age 67 & 66), we had previously moved our RRSP to RRIF accounts when we turned 65. However, in 2024, we decided we didn’t want to make minimum annual withdrawals anymore from our RRIF, so we decided to move all the funds in our RRIF back to our individual RRSP. This internal transfer is supposed to be tax free, however the bank sends you a T4RSP (several hundred dollars in this case) and an equal amount as RRSP deduction, which cancels any potential taxes on this transfer. The T4RSP amount is reported on line 15000 and since the Alberta Government is only looking at that line item, it will result in an automatic disqualification even thought our combined true income is much lower than $225,000.
2) Several people I helped apply for the benefit have ran into a problem trying to pick the correct account where the rebate should be deposited. The Verisgn ID verification protocol the government designed/programmed, automatically picks a random account from your bank app if you have more than one saving or chequing account and there is no way to manually pick an account. This is bad programming and very frustrating and the government should fix these.
Giving a $100, while stealing a $1000.
The rebate should be claimed at tax time; this convoluted submission process is just more government waste meant to virtue signal and buy votes.
Wait, did Smith just admit to the results of previous UCP gas tax cuts just gave money to Oil and Gas Execs.
Shame on Alberta Government for their access to the gas rebate website. This is the worst application process I have ever seen. They have a handful of major banks and if your bank is not listed you have to go through hoops only to be rejected. I cannot believe that they would launch such a poor system in 2026. After 4 attempts I now have to call and sit on hold waiting for an assistant.
System was down multiple times when I attempted to apply.
Good things about the $100 vs a cut in gasoline prices:
– Only Albertans get the $100
– Most government workers like teachers and nurses will not get the $100 because their income is too high
– For the average Albertan they will end up with more money than a gas tax reduction
Did I miss the application process details.
Not worth the hundred dollars. 5 hours wasted of error after error after error.
I’ll do without.
Should have been automatic. It took over 1/2 an hour. And the money will not arrive for 2 weeks.
Almost not worth the hassle.
