Ontario Premier Doug Ford and his Alberta counterpart Danielle Smith are pushing the idea of a new 3,300-kilometre oil pipeline that would run from Hardisty, Alta., to Sarnia, Ont.
The plan follows an agreement signed between Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan to explore an east-west energy corridor and railway.
That plan, outlined in a memorandum of understanding last summer, was to work together to study a potential east-west pipeline made with domestically produced steel to connect to the not-yet-built James Bay deep-sea port in Ontario.
Ford said Monday that the pipeline would be known as the Northern Shield Energy Corridor and was designed to take advantage of oil-refining capacity in Sarnia.

The proposed route would go from Hardisty to Regina, Winnipeg and then arc through Ontario, north of Toronto and end in Sarnia.
A feasibility study is currently underway involving various consulting groups.
Ford joined Smith to make the announcement at the Calgary Stampede after the two leaders were up bright and early flipping pancakes at Smith’s annual premier’s breakfast.
“We’re going to keep working to build a more secure, united and resilient Canadian economy, so we can keep Canadian workers on the job, make life more affordable for Canadian families and help get Canadian energy to new markets across the country and around the world,” he said in a statement.

The Ontario government estimated the pipeline would move 500,000 barrels of oil per day for domestic use.
While the news release referenced opportunities for Manitoba to join the project, it did not include any indication that its provincial government had signed up for a project that would likely have to travel through its territory.
“Alberta is committed to working with provincial and federal partners to turn this opportunity into reality,” Smith said in the news release. “A new west-east pipeline will connect Canadian energy with Canadian consumers while laying the foundation for future growth.”
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said it would strengthen Canadian “energy security and create good-paying jobs.”

I say build it if for no other reason than to anger the seditious wanne be yanks in Alberta.
This is a great idea. Somehow the liberals and the indigenous will put a stop to it. If it does ever happen, please make sure Quebec sees none of the profits. The proof will be in the pudding. If it ain’t handing out more drugs for junkies taking a dump on our streets or putting tampons in the men’s washroom the liberals will have none of it!
Talk about fear! All of a sudden, other provinces are scrambling. Too little, too late. Can’t wait for October!

Disregard my posts people. I’m a donkey. I have no clue. I get my thoughts from global and cbc so of coarse I don’t know anything.
Yes Roy, we do disregard your posts. Have done so for a long time now.
And anyone that disagrees prefers to buy American.
Constitutionally speaking, all provinces involved could start building the pipelines in their respective provinces and then connect them only when the Feds are at their weakest.
Just stop listening to the Federal government and build it.
At times I wonder if all this pipeline talk is meant to appease the Alberta Independence movement. Then these pipelines will fade away after the October referendum. Sorry but pipelines are just one item on the growing list of frustrations that Alberta has faced over the decades. Even with the proposed pipelines, the tanker ban still exists. The industrial carbon tax, the carbon capture regulations which will make Alberta oil more expensive on world markets. The pointlessness of having elections in the west since elections are decided in Quebec and Ontario. Trade deals which benefits the east and harms the west. Etc, etc.
cheaper to build a refinery in Alberta
If it’s feasible, then why not. Would be a benefit to all of Canada.
Let it go. Good god. Can’t get through Manitoba anyhow. The glory days are over!
Why is my wallet shaking?
Why is my wallet shaking.
I’ll believe it when I see it. Every province is for itself in this backwoods colony…
I am always lost. Just like to blame someone else for my parents drinking when I was conceived if that makes any sense.
Everyone thank a Liberal for the entire lost decade of Trudeau. Mindless yuppies.
Premier Kinew is ignored in Ford’s plan to build a deep sea port in the James Bay; Ontario. James Bay is twice as far as Churchill from ice free open water shipping. Kinew will need to play hard ball with Ford and Carney to include Churchill as a deep sea port. It’s impossible to see how not including Churchill is in the national interest? Shipping out of James Bay will never be faster and cheaper than Churchill for oil, crops and other exports to Europe and South America. If Manitoba is indeed excluded from Ford and Carney’s plan; then Kinew will have to call a separation referendum too. Because it will be a political decision based on serving eastern needs. Alberta threatening separation got them a pipeline deal. Likewise, Kinew will say no to Ford’s plan and call a referendum. Then Kinew will get his Churchill plan included as a national interest project. But sad when Ford’s plan starts out with a slap in the face for Kinew!
Sounds like a good project
Nice, but we missed the boat with Energy East years ago. This is a pipe dream that will probably never happen, and if it does it won’t be in most of our lifetimes.
This is not the time to advance this pipeline. It has taken a lot of political will already to push the BC pipeline through. Why not build a refinery in Alberta instead?
The taxpayer should not be paying for this pipeline.
This great project and we need the pipeline recived up to the export port to Europe and doubled the pipeline by another one used for multiproduct export after canadian oil refineries. Also we need gas liquidation plants with gas pipeline to export our extra gas to Europe. Let’s give new jobs for all Canadians. Let us expedite canada GDP growth. Don’t lessen for green party ho kill canada GDP AND jobs.
And this projects is more good for
environment. And have no any pollution than export oil by train now canada use.
No more reliance on the US to bring our oil to market where it will be needed for years to prosper and improve ourselves and our technologies to save the earth!
Mmm…non. Money cannot be used for innovation. This is Canada. Alert! Alert! I lack confidence in my weather forecast.
But we only cheer for oil when it pulls our PM out of recession territory if only for a month.
If it means acknowledging that our oil industry is an economic benefit thats not gonna happen!
All that paperwork really means NOTHING in the future. Been done and ignored before with no consequence to anyone.
Great idea but thats all it really is. Until we see dirt being moved, this means nothing. Northern gateway or Energy East anyone?.
Liberals are petulant children that cannot control their emotions and are pathetically attempting to libel people that are anonymous and they just can’t handle it anymore than they can survive an adult conversation without months of therapy.
I swallow man juice. In a biblical way check my name.
Yeah what could go wrong with a plan from Old Mud Flap Face of the west and Porky Pigs stunt double in Ontario.
Disregard my posts people. I’m a donkey. I have no clue. I get my thoughts from global and cbc so of coarse I don’t know anything.
Pipelines are the way of the past. Give it up already!
Besides, Temu Trump Dani is a traitor to the country, she deserves a firing squad, not rewards.
Good it is about time
Leslie Dickie, negotiations and legal responsibility to our first nations belongs to the Federal Government, not the Provinces.
And it should be a priority for Liberals in terms of their stated goals of interprovincial trade cooperation and their claims that Canada has whaf the world wants and they are going to deliver, not to mention their alleged desire to not be dependent on the US.
I mean, how could they object and not be seen as liars?
For all the pipelines in the works Canada would be better off building its own refinery
Manitoba has not approved this line because people who contribute nothing to build it want to have a say and a share of the profits.
They only mention working with provincial and feds…key land owners First Nations-her biggest obstacle is she not willing to have meaningful engagement with-the days of strongholds over First Nations is over Daniel your pipe dream will never come to life without true meaningful engagement and partnerships-be a leader in every sense of the word not a tyrant like the clown south of us!! With all due respect
Why do the Atlantic provinces vote Liberal. Not even a mention of a pipeline to the east coast.
Get these people out of office
About time and It’s 2050 miles and Smith is still a cnt

Carney spent some political capital getting the BC pipeline through, and now Smith wants another pipeline right now? Maybe in two years it could be considered. Not now.
GO F*CK YOURSELF LUNATIC!

This is a great idea as currently Ontario and Eastern Canada is dependent on Enbridge Line 5 that runs through the USA and currently the Michigan Govenor want to shut it down.
Let’s hope this becomes a thing, good for all of Canada.
Wab will never allow this, don’t bother.
But no private interest yet. It is obvious that the Industry still does not trust the Carney government not to interfere somewhere during process. We need to get rid of these Liberals and rescind all the anti petroleum legislation.
let Business do business.
