Rogers Sports & Media announced on Tuesday that it has made the “difficult decision” to close Sportsnet 650 and News 1130 in Vancouver.
They are two of six radio stations in four markets closing due to “declining audience and revenue trends,” the company stated.
Others include news and sports stations in Vancouver and news stations in Halifax and Kitchener.
According to the organization, 80 employees were affected by the radio closures and 230 positions were eliminated across Rogers Sports & Media.

Who cares. Nobody under the age of 50 gives a sh1t
I am extremely disappointed and saddened by the decision to shut down 1130 AM. As a longtime listener, this station was an important part of my daily life. I relied on it for traffic updates, local news, weather, and information that helped me stay connected to my community.
The closure of 1130 AM feels like the loss of a trusted companion. Many listeners like me depended on this service, and it is frustrating to see such a well-known and valuable station disappear. While I understand businesses have to make decisions, it seems that the loyalty and needs of longtime listeners were not given enough consideration.
Please understand that this decision has had a real impact on people who counted on 1130 AM every day. I hope Rogers will listen to the feedback from its audience and recognize how much this station meant to the community. I am truly upset and disappointed by this decision.
I cannot stand Rogers. The worst service with on-going software issues. I hate what they charge for a less than subpar service, but guess what, they can. There is no competition! Bunch of scavengers
Bring in the competition. All these monopolies in Canada and we’re loosing essential things like these radio stations.
why dont we get rid of rogers an overbloated monopoly lets get some competition
I hope CKNW730 (980) can hang-on – I’d be pretty upset if that station goes off the air…
This is the result of monopolies and no competition . Buy out the opposition and then shut them down. Control the narrative
First AM730 and now News 1130 which I like on the way in at 5am yet they keep Global News on the air which is repetitive garbage. They don’t really care about viewership as they NEVER respond to feedback.
anonymous,
Like getting your news and sports is going to be worthy via Tik Tok and Instagram. No wonder we are where we are.
Who cares. These stations are only for old white people
WOW! What a loss. NEWS 1130’s Traffic Reports are vital for anyone who drives in the Lower Mainland. And that’s to say nothing about their coverage of news and sports. I rely on that station.
Very sad, and disappointing of Rogers.
Just insane
