The federal government will not accept any new applications this year from people who want to sponsor their parents and grandparents to come to Canada.
The Immigration Department says the change is part of an effort to responsibly manage the system.

There are 60,500 applications in progress already and the government expects to approve 15,000 parents and grandparents in each of the next two years from those existing files.
It will not accept new applications for this year in an effort to reduce wait times, which average about three years.

The program was launched in 2020, when more than 200,000 permanent residents and citizens expressed interest in sponsoring a parent or grandparent to come to Canada.
The pause on accepting new applications is in effect until further notice.
I was once told by a recent immigrant man that the only reason people come to Canada is security and health care. The security part is fading fast.

We are wising up to the fact that grandparents and parents do not add to the economy of Canada. They are a drain on our economy because Canada pays for their health, and old age. The older the immigrant, the more costly they are.

Could it be because there is a net loss in GDP and social security payments when 1 worker brings two or more elderly people to overwhelm an already depleted Healthcare and social service system.

A married working couple with two kids brings over 4 parents and 4 grandparents. That’s 10 people put on the healthcare system for two people working and paying tax. It’s ludicrous. Trust the liberal party not to figure it out day one.

In BC you can’t go into a hospital waiting room without it being crammed with new comers in their 60s to 80s. No English or French and never had a day of formal health care in their lives .They show up here with decades of neglected health problems and that have compounded themselves into other serious health problems and then suck up a what few hospital beds we have left. This is pushing Canadians who have paid into the health system for decades into the hallways or outside care.
You shouldn’t be allowed to bring any parents over for a decade at least and your grandparents never.
