(Update: Jan. 15) BlackBerry has attributed the tweeting error to an “outside agency.”
According to CNet reporter Chris Matyszczyk, the smartphone maker initially said it was “reluctant to elaborate” on the issue; however, a spokesperson later told Matyszczyk, “I can confirm the post was done by an outside agency.”

TORONTO – Canadian smartphone maker BlackBerry has become the laughing stock of the Internet after sending a tweet from its official account from a competitor’s device.
The tweet, sent Tuesday morning from the @BlackBerry account, read, “Keep up with the conversation on @Twitter.” The message was fairly normal for the Waterloo, Ont.-based company, aside from the part that read, “via Twitter for iPhone.”

The text that identifies which app the message was sent from isn’t visible in Twitter’s main app, but could be seen in other platforms like TweetDeck, as pointed out by The Verge who first noticed the tweet.

The tweet has since been deleted. BlackBerry has not addressed the incident.
But, this isn’t the first time BlackBerry has been in the middle of an embarrassing Twitter gaffe.
In 2013, Alicia Keys sent a tweet from the Twitter for iPhone app during her stint as BlackBerry’s global creative director. The pop star, who had promised to be faithful to BlackBerry after being named as a spokesperson, later claimed her account was hacked.
