WINNIPEG — A pair of long serving members of the Winnipeg Goldeyes announced their retirement on Tuesday. Infielder Casey Haerther and left-handed starting pitcher Brendan Lafferty are both hanging up their spikes.
Haerther, 28, played mostly first base for the Goldeyes over the past three seasons. He finished a seven-year professional baseball career with a .310 batting average with 60 home runs and 450 RBI in 698 games. His 217 RBI with the Goldeyes ranks him sixth in franchise history and he was an all-star the last two years.
“I cannot express how thankful I am to Rick (Forney), Tom (Vaeth), and the Goldeyes’ for the past three seasons,” Haerther said in a media release. “Rick has been one of the best managers I have played for in my entire career, only demanding that you go about your business the right way and play the game correctly. I am happy to call him a friend, and someone I can call anytime about not only baseball, but life as well.”
