Teen injured as fire destroys home in Marmora

A teen was injured after fire destroyed a home in Marmora on Sunday night – Sep 11, 2017

A teenager was taken to hospital with burns after a fire destroyed a home near Marmora, Ont., on Sunday night.

The house on Cordova Road was fully involved when Marmora and Lake Fire Department crews arrived on scene just after 10:30 p.m. The community of Marmora is about 55 kilometres east of Peterborough off Highway 7.

Fire officials say the family managed to get out but a 14-year-old boy suffered minor burns.

“He was taken by ambulance to hospital with burns to his body,” said Greg Shire, public relations for the fire department. “I don’t believe it’s life-threatening.”

On Monday morning, the fire department said the teen was expected to be released from hospital later in the day.

Damage is pegged at $200,000 as the fire destroyed the home. The Office of Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating but officials say the cause of the fire is not considered suspicious.
