Man taken to hospital in serious condition after being shot in Scarborough

Toronto paramedics says a man has been shot in the McCowan Road and Eglinton Avenue East early Friday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the area around 5:45 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

Paramedics said they found a man with a gunshot wound and transported him in serious but stable condition to a trauma centre.

Omar Peters, who told Global News he is the victim’s brother, said he doesn’t believe his 21-year-old brother was targeted.

“I heard the shots go off and I woke up and I literally saw my brother walking towards the house covered in blood,” Peters said.

“It was just a lot to see him come towards me… I could tell he was in a lot of pain.”

Peters said it looked like his brother was shot somewhere on his back. The two live with their grandmother who Peters said took it “really hard.”

“When you live in an area like this, unfortunately you are immune to it,” said Peters.

Blain Romain, who told Global News he is the victim’s cousin, said he woke up for work to find to police outside his door asking if he saw anything.

“You don’t want to see anyone getting shot… I grew up with him, I know him,” Romain said.

There is no word on suspects, police are investigating and asking anyone with information to call investigators.
