It’s no secret it has been a hard two years for families and individuals in the community. In fact, the use of local food banks has increased and is now stuck at high use all year long, something that was not the norm pre-pandemic. Tricia Mason reports on the situation in the Peterborough area.

Food banks often see a dip in donations after the holidays. Kawartha Food Share says they use around 50 per cent of their food budget between Christmas and Easter. Katrina Squazzin has more.

This weekend the Kawartha Food Share held a porch food drive. It was the second one they have organized since the start of the pandemic. As Tricia Mason tells us, the level of need continues to increase.

It’s been going on for roughly 20 years, but organizer of the event, Catherine Hanrahan, says the event gets bigger, with more remarkable designs every year. All the money sold from pumpkins today goes towards the Kawartha Food Share.
