The Town of Whitby says it will no longer use the social media platform, X in response to political tensions with the U.S. The decision was made due to concerns about the platform's accountability and overall direction under Elon Musk's control. The town says X is being increasingly used to spread misinformation and at times, discriminatory beliefs that don't align with its values. Whitby's mayor is also removing her account. Instead, the town will continue to post information on its website, as well as its Facebook and LinkedIn accounts. Whitby is also exploring new ways to communicate with residents.
