SaskPower to buy hydro from its Manitoba counterpart

WINNIPEG – Manitoba’s Crown-owned energy utility has signed a deal to sell 100 megawatts of hydroelectric power to its counterpart in Saskatchewan. The 20-year agreement between Manitoba Hydro and SaskPower starts in 2020 and is big enough to power 40,000 homes.

The deal is part of a memorandum of understanding signed two years ago involving up to 500 megawatts, and Manitoba Hydro says more sales may come under that agreement.

The sale will also require a new 80-kilometre transmission line across the interprovincial boundary, which Rankie says will cost roughly $50 million.
