Police investigating what could be Edmonton’s first homicide of 2014

EDMONTON – The first day of 2014 has started with a suspicious death in the downtown core.

Police were called to the Alta Vista condo development just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, where they found a 52-year-old man on whom they performed CPR until paramedics arrived. He was then rushed him to hospital, where he died a short time later.

Police say a man who was with the 52-year-old victim had asked residents for help before officers arrived.

Investigators stayed at the scene for several hours.

Charges have been laid in the case, but police say they will not reveal any more information until an autopsy is performed on Jan. 3.
